Orchestra

The College Orchestra has not run for a number of years, mainly due to the fact that, as one of the smallest colleges in Durham, we have not had sufficient numbers to make it viable.  This does not mean, however, that it is not going to run this year!  There will be an orchestra sign-up sheet at the Freshers’ Fair, on the same table as the College Choir sign-up, which will ask for your name, contact details and instruments – following the Fair, a decision will be made as to whether an orchestra (or other ensemble!) is viable.  If you have any questions about the orchestra

Dance

More information about this society will come up soon.

Daylight Robbery

Are you addicted to bass? Do you crave the rave? Love the feeling of jumping crowds? Well daylight robbery probably isn't your thing. But hey we can dream. There's no Tiestos, Fat Boy Slims or Sir Mix Alots here, oh no, just Dave, the single member of Durham's ONLY DJing Society - Daylight Robbery.

Christian Union (CU)

You might guess that there are quite a few Christians in John’s. The Christian Union is a place where we can all meet together, supporting and encouraging each other. You don’t have to be a Christian to come along, and you don’t have to come along if you are a Christian - hopefully any Christian will feel a part of the union of Christians regardless of level of activity.

Chapel Choir

The auditioned choral scholars of the chapel choir sing the office of Evensong every Wednesday in the chapel, alongside other services such as the End of Term Cathedral services. They are one of the best choirs in the University and sing to an extremely high standard. Auditions are held at the start of Michaelmas Term so you need to apply very soon after you arrive.

Bailey Theatre Company

Durham Student Theatre (the overarching body for theatre at Durham University) is made up of a number of individual theatre companies. The Bailey Theatre Company is run by Johnians and has one of the best reputations for producing amazing theatre in the whole of Durham! Recent shows have been awarded 5* reviews and always sell ver well. These have included 'The Crucible', '4:48 Psychosis', 'Spring Awakening', 'After the End' and 'Dr. Faustus' which also won the award for Best Play at the Durham Oscars.

Amnesty International

The St John's branch of Amnesty is a friendly and passionate society within college. It really gives its members (and the college as a whole) a chance to make a difference to the individual lives of persecuted people all over the world. We look at Amnesty campaigns from England to China and would love as much support and as many ideas as possible!
