Hiya!
My name's Sean, and I will be your JHJCR welfare officer for the coming year. Here are a few things that I do. It’s not exhaustive; if there is something not included (or even included for that matter) please feel free to come and have a chat about it. That goes for a chat about anything, any time!
Here goes!
Campaigns... Along with members of the Welfare Committee, we come up with campaign ideas, events etc to let you know ‘what’s going down in the Welfare world’, raise awareness of various relevant issues, and keep you updated with information.
Exec... I also sit on exec as a student body representative, and primarily ensure that all discussions are sensitive to potentially related welfare issues.
Signposting... With pages of contacts at my disposal, I have the information at hand to point you in the direction you are looking for. This goes for support structures (college, university and nationwide), where to get information, and just useful things like that!
Student Support Network... I co-ordinate the amazing team of student2student supporters who make up the peer support system within college. Their details and smiling faces can be found on the notice board (opposite cellar bar door) or on the website. You too can become one of these ... email for info. (Shameless plug sorry!)
Supplies... Sort of self explanatory, from the Welfare officer you can obtain all sorts of free goodies! Including condoms, pregnancy tests, attack alarms, lube and dental dams. Condoms are available through student2students – they can be taken discreetly from bags on some of their doors, or you can just ask any of us for them. Other supplies are available through me, and can be arranged to be collected completely confidentially through the anonymous emailing system on the website if you prefer.
Talk... If at any time you feel like a chat, feel free to come to me! I have publicised office hours, or you can arrange a time and place that's convenient for you by e-mailing, ringing, asking, texting, mailing, etc! I'm here to listen, in a non-judgemental, confidential capacity. I can also make a pretty decent drink and provide sugary treats too!
I’d just like to also say that the college welfare system is there for you to use as much or as little as you need/want but don’t forget it is there to be used. So please never feel like there is no-one or nowhere to turn to, and if you have any suggestions for how you would like YOUR welfare support system to change I’d love to hear your ideas!
I think that’s it!
See you around!
Sean
