Hi, I’m Fran and I’m your St. John’s College Societies Officer for the forthcoming year!
I’m currently Second Year studying Combined Social Sciences and within university combine being part of Instep dance troupe with a steadfast commitment to all things John’s! Despite being a small college, John’s does a great job at providing societies for a whole range of passions, talents and interests to enable you to get involved in college life. Over the last year, John’s societies have flourished and the foundation of the John’s Dance Society, a Ski and Snowboard Society and a branch of Amnesty International has given even more breadth to the scopes of interests of college members. We are now beginning to offer the same opportunities as the larger colleges in terms of society membership, and I want to promote the establishment of even more societies so that everyone has something to get involved with. We are one of only a few colleges not to have a Cheerleading Society and some of our television-related societies are in much need of reinvigoration! And that’s where my job comes in...supporting existing societies through extra promotion within college, making setting up a society a simple, pain-free experience and liaising between societies and the JCR exec so that societies are sufficiently supported within college. Furthermore, the new Colours System means that College is keen to recognise the dedication, success and commitment of society members which will hopefully encourage a flurry of new societies! I really believe that John’s should be a place where everyone should have an outlet to express themselves whether it be through sport, drama or charitable pursuits.
So have a look through the list on the right at what's on offer and feel free to get in touch with any of the society presidents to find out more. If you’re interested in setting up a society of your own then please contact me and I’ll be happy to help! Look out for the societies board situated in the Bailey Room which will be revamped soon. In the meantime, GET INVOLVED!
